Based in Antwerp, the Expertise Centre operates as an official partner organization of the Flemish Government (Belgium) that works to spread research, good practices and clear communication tools about care for people with any type of dementia. This knowledge is inspired by literature and daily care practice, using a bottom-up approach. Starting from a person-centred vision with respect for individuals’ life stories, needs and preferences, our key focus is situated in the following fields:
• Providing a wide range of tailor-made training
• Realizing low-threshold awareness raising
• Dissemination of scientific and practical information
• Communication through a wide range of online and offline channels
• Building on a powerful dementia policy
• Providing reliable information as a media partner at a (inter)national and regional level
• Cooperation and networking
• Expert advice
• Supporting staying longer at home with dementia through dementia-friendly project work and exploring assistive technologies
• Bringing home and residential care further into balance
Together with their locally based regional expertise centres, the Flanders Centre of Expertise operates as the national reference point concerning dementia care and policy.
